About the IMO
The IMO is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents. The IMO Advisory Board ensures that the competition takes place each year and that each host country observes the regulations and traditions of the IMO.

A total of 30 invited students attended the seminar, held at Kolej Cemara, UiTM.
(We apologize to those who did not receive the notification on time. In any case, invited students who did not attend the seminar are still eligible to attend the December camp.)
The seminar started at 10.00am. Dr. Arsmah welcomed the attendees and gave a briefing on IMO and the training program. The students were then divided into groups for a problem-solving workshop, each group led by experienced students from the IMO 2010 camp. We finished at 4.00pm.
The textbooks for reading assignment have been distributed to the students. Please contact Dr. Arsmah at 012 2107620 if you have not received your copy.
17 — 21 December 2010: IMO Training Camp I
The camp was held in Kolej Cemara UiTM. There were 33 attendees, 8 of them returning from the IMO 2010 program. In the first session, the students were warmly welcomed by the IMO committee chair, Dr. Arsmah. Pn. Jamilah and Pn. Masita (UiTM) ably managed the logistics, and they deserve our appreciation.
Throughout the camp, the new students were given lectures on basic concepts by trainers Dr. Shaharudin and Mr. Ikhwan. The returning students focused more on problem solving skills under the guidance of Mr. Suhaimi. Mr. Suhaimi also presented a special lecture on the geometric problems of antiquity.
On the fourth day, we were honored to host a former IMO participant, Dr. Ong Shien Jin. Dr. Ong received his undergraduate degree from MIT and his doctorate from Harvard, and is now working at a top investment bank in New York. He gave an expository talk on computer science, focusing on primality tests. The Q&A session was quite lively as Dr. Ong shared his views with the students on a wide range of topics, from college education, the value of mathematics, to career potential for math students. After his talk, he sat for group photos and presented a gift to the IMO team.
Dr. Ong represented Malaysia in IMO 1999 and 2000, and served as the team guide in IMO 2001 in Washington DC, while a freshman at MIT. He is the first Malaysian medalist at IMO.

bal, why can’t one participate individually in the olimpiad matematik kebangsaan. Why it has to be through school and in a group? Individuals after spm and stpm will have time to learn the content and it will better if the they are given the chance to participate.
Hello,
I do not organize the OMK and do not have any say in the OMK rules. I only train the potential IMO team members.
COMMENT DELETED BY AUTHOR
Reason: racial undertones
Any grouse you have with the IMO selection, please raise with the MOE who made the policy. I have no say in the matter. I am merely a trainer of the IMO team.
This is my personal site, which I use to report the Malaysia-IMO training program.
I’d appreciate if people don’t shit this page with irrelevant gunk. Any more of this, and I will erase the whole page.
All the best to the IMO team 2010!
Also, anything racist or even remotely hinting at racial issues are unwelcome here.
And don’t cop out by saying “I’m not saying that blah blah blah BUT blah blah”. I am not stupid and understand perfectly what is implied. I wasn’t born yesterday you know.
This is a personal website — I make the rules around here.
thanks for this exercise :D
can take calculator inside???
Nope.
Is the list for the 40 shortlisted students available? When will the school be notified?
I’ve updated the list (there are 41 of them). PERSAMA already informed the Ministry about the successful candidates.
The Ministry will then notify the Jabatan, which will in turn inform the schools, which will inform the students. Hopefully everyone will be notified by early next week.
Or, the quickest alternative is to check this page for updates.
how is it possible to check if i was in one of the 102 students who were invited but the school did not inform me? is there any way? i would really really like to join the imo training camp and i believe i have the credentials to do so.
The list of shortlisted students is final.
i understand that it is final. but i would just like to check if my name was on the 102 students invited because my school has the habit of notifying the students extremely late. just curious, please?
Let us not bother Mr Suhaimi that much
Which school are you from and what is your name?
ummm.. can i send you an email instead? it’d be rather too public here. so sorry. but really i hope i can just check.
Hey i would like to know you too, what is your email justme?
Yes, you can email me
it’s passionformaths@gmail.com. thanks man.
Congratulations to the 41 selected students:) Work hard!
And make full use of the chance of course

Please contact Dr Arsmah to get the textbooks and prepare for the December camp. The seminar is only a brief intro to IMO training.

Please be advised that this is a personal website — I run the show as I like it.*
When will they be notified for the 17 – 21 December training?
Will those attended the training be given a cert as recognisation?
mr.suhaimi, has the information about the camp in dec been sent out? the dates are just around the corner bt i havent heard any news about it yet
Those who attended the seminar has been notified about the next camp on 17-21 December. Those who did not attend (5 of them) has been informed individually.
Students should attend the training camp with intention to learn mathematics and not just to collect certificates. But in any case, yes, certificates will be provided.
kudos bal. i do not realise that you are the ‘chosen one’ until recently came across your blog. regret that i could not contribute much. what a wonderful experience being in a team with you in old days.. those who masters add maths and further maths got plenty of advantage in this competition..if i could turn back the time.. lol.. good job. best wishes

Asking questions are genuinely good thing if you are not
understanding something entirely, except this post provides
nice understanding yet.
