City Lights

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_Lights :

City Lights is a 1931 American silent film, a romantic comedy written and directed by Charlie Chaplin, who is the star. It also has the leads Virginia Cherrill and Harry Myers. Although “talking” pictures were on the rise since 1928, City Lights was immediately popular. Today it is thought of as one of the highest accomplishments of Chaplin’s prolific career. Although classified as a comedy, City Lights has an ending widely regarded as one of the most moving in cinema history.

___________

SR: City Lights is one of my all-time favorite films. The film is pure Chaplin slapstick comedy, but the ending is exceptionally poignant. I remember the first time I saw it in a film class: after the ending scene, half of us were in tears.

Rather than looking for the ending scene on Youtube, you should see the whole movie so you can experience one of the most moving scenes in film history.

Here is the whole film, for your enjoyment. The film is 87 minutes long. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
