I wrote about this film back in 2009 — https://suhaimiramly.wordpress.com/2009/04/22/films-i-like-1/
This is among my top 5 favorite film, so yesterday I watched the film again, this time on Youtube.
Here is some info about the film:
One of my favorite scenes, filmed in one shot:
“According to the director, it took 2 days and 39 takes to get this scene right. It would be hard for an adult actor to get everything perfect in such a long scene with complicated dialogue, let alone a child.” — from a Youtube comment.
Tatum O’Neal won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for this film, at the age of 11. Which is weird, because the film is supposed to be about her (the film is based on the book titled “Addie Loggins”, which is also her character’s name) and she appears in almost all scenes. I don’t know who she was supposed to be “Supporting”. Anyway, to date she remains the youngest person to win an acting Oscar.
Too bad, though, after the film the relationship between Ryan and Tatum O’Neal deteriorated. Only after the death of Ryan’s partner Farah Fawcett in 2009 that father and daughter finally reconciled: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_and_Tatum:_The_O%27Neals
